About Nippertown

What Is Nippertown?

Nippertown is an online magazine based in the greater Capital Region and Hudson Valley regions of New York and western Massachusetts, writing about local art, music, theater, film, and culture. It was started in May 2009 by Greg Haymes and Sara Ayers and continued until Greg’s untimely passing in April 2019.

In June 2019, the reins were passed over to Jim Gilbert and Laura DaPolito.

Our Mission

Nippertown seeks to nurture the Capital Region’s creative community.

Nippertown is committed to promoting and celebrating the vibrant music, arts, and culture scene in the Capital Region of New York State. Through our online platform, we aim to provide comprehensive coverage of local events, artists, and venues, while fostering a community of passionate arts enthusiasts. Our mission is to inspire and engage audiences, to cultivate a deeper appreciation for the arts, and to help build a thriving creative economy in our region.

Why Nippertown?

Greg and Sara liked dogs. They liked music. They especially liked large outdoor sculptures of dogs that look like they were listening to music.

Jim and Laura love dogs, in particular their two certified therapy dogs, Ellie and Truman. We also love music, art, and getting out and doing things in the wonderful Capital Region.
