Bette Smith and the Babes
Wind down a September evening with music on the lawn. Rock and soul singer Bette Smith and her band perform in a free concert near the Clark’s Reflecting Pool. Plan to bring a blanket or your own chairs for seating.
Smith traces elements of her life-affirming new album The Good, The Bad & The Bette to her childhood in Brooklyn, creating a sound that musically connects to both the gospel music she heard in church and the soul music she heard on the street corners. This injection of soul and gospel into rock & roll has powered her popular appeal, winning her rave reviews from National Public Radio, Paste, American Songwriter, and Billboard, and a feature in The New York Times. NPR’s All Things Considered calls her most recent album “a stompin’ good time”, and the album landed her on legendary critic Jim DeRogatis’ (Sound Opinions) “Best Albums of 2020” list. A 2021 nominee for female Blues Artist of the Year by Living Blues magazine, Smith and her band bring their original sound and lots of fun to the Clark for a special performance.
