The RED Bookshelf is a non-profit community literacy program. Working with community partners, we provides free children’s books on bright red bookshelves throughout Albany to ensure that all children have access to the benefits of book ownership, regardless of income level.
UAlbany staff and students volunteer on campus to clean and repair donated children’s books for future distribution.
Event will feature live music from local band, Doctor Baker and poetry readings by local poets.
Doctor Baker started out as an acoustic duo featuring singer-songwriter Ed Schwarzschild (UAlbany English professor and Writers Institute Fellow), and guitarist Iggy Calabria, two wayward Philadelphians who met in Albany, NY. After adding UAlbany art professor Danny Goodwin on drums, Jim Maximowicz on bass, and Chris Gockley on guitar/bass, Doctor Baker sounds a lot louder, and the band’s strong, sound medicine has begun to heal audiences in the Capital Region and beyond.
Stay tuned for the final list of featured poets including UAlbany faculty!
