In an intimate listening room that combines the refinement of a concert hall with the comfort of a living room, Caffe Lena is devoting the 2nd Tuesday of each month to America’s most original contribution to the musical palate, JAZZ. This continuing series is hosted by resident composer, pianist and jazz master, Chuck Lamb, with support from music producer Joel Moss. JAZZ at Caffe Lena features collaborations between Lamb and internationally touring jazz artists, as well as many of the Capital Region’s best.
Chuck Lamb, who has been a member of the Brubeck Brothers Quartet since 2002, is not only an exciting and emotive pianist in his own right, but also a prolific composer of jazz, fusion, classical and world music. Most recently, Chuck and his band have released a CD of his original acoustic fusion music, titled North By Northeast. The CD has been receiving airplay on major jazz stations and garnering new fans and rave reviews worldwide.
Dan Brubeck is a renowned jazz drummer, and a member of one of America’s most notable musical families. He is the son of legendary American jazz icon Dave Brubeck and the rhythmic force behind the highly successful Brubeck Brothers Quartet, whose CDs have consistently been at the top of the jazz radio charts. Dan was producer and drummer for the 1993 Grammy nominated Trio Brubeck album and performed in the 1996 annual Grammy Award Ceremony as well as The 2009 Kennedy Center Honors. Dan has toured the international music circuit since his early teens as the leader of his own groups and as a featured soloist with many of the world’s top symphonies, pop and jazz artists. Dan’s original drumming style, distinctive solos, and his mastery of polyrhythms have earned him the respect of critics worldwide.
Mike DeMicco’s expansive embrace of music has led him to work with prominent artists in many genres. He’s toured the world extensively since 1980, performing and recording with a diverse cross-section of jazz, blues and popular artists, including Dave Brubeck, The Brubeck Brothers Quartet, Jack DeJohnette, Nick Brignola, Warren Bernhardt, Lee Shaw, Rory Block, James & Livingston Taylor, Professor “Louie” and The Crowmatix, and many others. Mike’s selected performance highlights include appearances on PBS and NPR; at the major European and North American jazz festivals; and at prestigious clubs and venues such as The Kennedy Center, Ronnie Scott’s, LA’s Jazz Bakery, The Blue Note, Birdland, The Five Spot, The Bottom Line, Wolf Trap, Great American Music Hall, and BB King’s.
Jazz at Caffe Lena is made possible by NYSCA with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
