Phil Allen is a valve trombonist/composer/arranger. He moved to the Capital Region in 2014 and since then has freelanced with Joe Barna, Skip Parsons, Mark Kleinhaut, Joe Finn, Michael Benedict, to name a few, as well as starting the Concert Jazz Band, a 13 pc big band featuring some of the finest musicians in the area. Originally from Indianapolis where he played in and wrote for the Von Ohlen/Allee big band. Phil moved to the San Francisco area in 1996 where he wrote for and played in the Collective West Jazz Orchestra. Then in 2006 moved to Colorado Springs putting together Thin Air Jazz a 12 pc big band featuring his original compositions and arrangements. Along the way there has been much free lancing with great musicians and bands.

The current group is the Phil Allen Quartet featuring Jon Leroy on organ, Joe Barna on Drums and Mike Newman on tenor sax. This is a swinging, energetic, fun band that does jazz standards along with music from Horace Silver, Lee Morgan, Jay Jay Johnson as well as original music by members of the band. The blues will be in evidence as well.
