ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
Traditional Irish Music workshops on fiddle, button accordion and guitar
Matt Cranitch on fiddle is the author of ‘the Irish fiddle book’ one of the quintessential guides to Irish fiddle music. He will be teaching advanced fiddle masterclasses at O’Flahertys Irish retreat in Texas later this year. Dónal on button accordion is respected as one of the best exponents of traditional Irish music. Both players are masters of the Sliabh Luachra style of polkas and slides. Tommy O’Sullivan on the guitar will be teaching accompaniment for Irish music in DADGAD tuning.
ABOUT THE BAND
Sliabh Notes is Limerick accordionist Dónal Murphy, a founding member of Four Men & A Dog, County Cork’s master fiddler, Matt Cranitch and County Kerry guitar ace and vocalist Tommy O’Sullivan. The music of Ireland’s Sliabh Luachra region, a mountainous area that straddles the counties of Cork, Kerry and Limerick, is justly noted for its vibrant dance music where the polka and slide are king. This trio brings together Sliabh Luachra’s instantly identifiable dance sound with songs and tunes that reflect the Irish contribution to the music of the American south. Guaranteed to lift your spirits and your feet, join them as they celebrate their 25th anniversary.
Understated and magnificent. Siobhan Long / The Irish Times
If there is a high end of traditional music playing, Sliabh Notes must certainly be in that category. From the first notes on this CD, the playing is spirited and full of passion… The Irish Voice
